Does it make sense to provide a 'Remote file' media source plugin? Or does it make more sense to allow users to use some kind of widget with the existing media types?

I think it makes sense to add a media 'Remote file' media source plugin. This would be useful for adding remote images that work with media entities rather than just file entities.

I think a Media Source plugin is probably needed. I have commented on the issue I am marking as related. It's about providing an add form in the core Media library.
