As I already mention in #33475: Attachment summary: Issue attachments should be grouped together and placed on top of the page - near the issue summary I am very impressed with the various ways mozilla.org uses bugzilla to take care of things when it comes to UX and generally with all the innovative ideas they come up and implement from time to time in order to improve their bug reporting UI.

I haven't used it for quite some time now and they seem to have upgraded to 4.x in the meantime. I was pleasantly surprised to see that as I typed a title for a new issue, it returned a query of possible duplicate issues (with links to them and all kinds of details). I was like: "Aha! someone did actually report this before me, but they used slightly different variations of words." . Hmm... no wonder I couldn't find a match when I searched. It also hit me!... some people do not even bother to search for duplicates before they file a new bug/issue. What a great way to deal with two things (that actually lead to the same result: more duplicate issues) at the same time in one go!

Now, if we implemented something like that too, we'd greatly reduce the number of dupes and the time people spend hunting them.

Thoughts people?

Thanx for pointing to the right direction Derek. Sorry for the irony... posting a duplicate issue that suggests a way to avoid duplicates ;)
