I'm want to use the prepopulate module so that I can automatically reference a node

ie the url will be node/add/event?edit[field_events_artists][0][nid][nid]=%20ABC%20Band%20[nid:%20208]

which works fine when using a normal node reference field but not with this module.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I might get it to work.
