This question reveals I'm a Drupal newbie.

Is this safe to install this module for testing in a site that already has some content?

I don't mind if the module doesn't work. If it just has bugs and can be uninstalled, I don't mind.

However, could it cause some permanent damage to documents or the database so that content would be lost?

Thanks in advance.

Non stable versions should always be tested first on a clean site. I recommend using quickstart for doing fast and easy tests; it even let's you replicate your live website so that you can test it by using the real content/setup (this requires some advanced knowledge, though).

With all of the patches that have been made, I believe this module to be mostly production ready.

We're pushing a site live with it next week and I'm hoping all my patches/updates work :)

Yes, a lot of patches have been prepared for this module--thank you, CybNext--but this version's maintainer has not committed anything since mid-April and does not comment on any issues. So one wonders whether it will ultimately be abandoned before it ever moves beyond the development stage; there's never been even an alpha version. Patches are great, but it's kind of a pain to have to apply them every time a module is installed. If one is wondering whether to start building sites with a module, one really ought to consider these things.

I didn't want to hijack this issue but I'd like to see 7.x patches committed, refer #1357404: Future of this project?

@pbfleetwood, what patches are you using? Can you link to them specifically and could you include a zip of your patched Node Hierarchy module?

Link to all 7.x patches in the issue que.

Sorry, @animelion, but I'm working with a fresh install at the moment.
