In a current use case, I have the need to support an optional second argument that specifies an exact revision to embed.

I will post patches as the emerge (I'm half-posting this for my own tracking purposes).

You can fix this by passing paramaters into your template file ... or in a preprocess function ... or supply a patch ;)
