Yeah, it looks like LiveChat is distributing an 8.x version on their own site (see above link and direct link here:)
https://www.livechatinc.com/files/plugins/drupal/livechat_drupal_8.zip

I would love if LiveChat had a similar copy of it over here if they could and was more involved with the community. Also, if you install the LiveChat version, the version "8.x" lists as "Not Supported" in your admin. It would be nice to have an officially supported release.

Closing this issue as 8.x-3.0-beta2 has now been released, mirroring the current development from LiveChat's official GitHub repository.'

Will open a separate issue to potentially add automated tests as well as documentation, as mentioned in the original issue description here.
