Support for Drupal 7 is ending on 5 January 2025—it’s time to migrate to Drupal 10! Learn about the many benefits of Drupal 10 and find migration tools in our resource center.
I'm actively following the iUI developments, but was curious if anyone has heard of iWebkit. It's a set of files at http://iwebkit.net that were created by iWeb Inc. to let you easily create your own iPhone websites. The kit looks really good and I was wondering if the license of iWebkit allows us to port it to Drupal. We could then add it to iUI (giving credit to both Rob Loach and iWeb Inc) and help speed up Drupal's iPhone exposure.

RobLoachThis looks really cool! I'm going to be meeting up Jingsheng at Drupal NYC in the next couple weeks to talk about fixing iUI and possibly checking out iWebKit. Looks like they're using a non-GPL license which might deny us from sticking it in the Drupal CVS, but it's definitely worth checking out.

mdroste CreditAttribution: mdroste commentedI've tried out iwebkit (http://mdwp.de/iphone) and I think integration with iUI sounds great.
Do you know http://blog2iphone.com/index.php? That is a service, which works for Drupal, WP and blogger. blog2iphone transforms RSS-Feeds of a Drupal-Site to nice looking iPhone Apps. Very cool. I setup my sites (e.g. http://mdwp.de) with blog2iphone in a few seconds and the service works very good.

nicholasThompsonIf anyone is interested, I've cobbled together a simple theme based on iWebKit which is in use on http://iphone.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk/. I'm sure it still needs work, but it's certainly a start. Pretty easy to do too...
I can put it up on here if it's any help - although I'm not sure about any licensing implications of attaching a version of iWebKit to this forum..

mkalkbrenner@nicholasThompson:
iWebKit seems to be LGPL. In my opinion it's not a problem to combine it with drupal's GPL code base. So please upload your work that we can have a look at it :-)
nicholasThompsonEt Voilà... As the French say.
I dont think there is anything too private in the theme...
apadernoThe problem is that code of other projects cannot be hosted in Drupal CVS repositories.
apadernoActually, all the code present in the CVS repository receive automatically a GPL v2 or higher license; I think it's not possible to assign to code in repository a different license at the same time.
Then, all code that calls a Drupal function becomes automatically GPL code (which is the Drupal license). I think it's not possible to assign to code a GPL license, and a LPGL license because the two are not compatible (correct me if I am wrong).

feuillet CreditAttribution: feuillet commentedsubscribing would be very interested in this port too.
heander CreditAttribution: heander commentedI guess we could post the integration theme to drupal CVS and then ask the users to download the iWebkit package separately, just like many of the other 3rd party themes and modules?
heander CreditAttribution: heander commentedHi,
I have put together an initial port to iWebKit 5. Unpack the Framwork directory from the latest iWebKit distribution under the theme folder and you should be good to go.
Cheers
Johan

jseguillon CreditAttribution: jseguillon commentedHi,
I'm really interrested in creatinh a template for iWebKit. I saw there's already a theme for drupal-iWebKit : http://drupal.org/project/iwebkit.
Did someone tried this ?
@heander : do you think you could commit your theme onto a new CVS so I could get involved in improving this theme ? I'd like to focus on admin theming for iPhone.

dunn CreditAttribution: dunn commentedHello,
I am using this theme
iwebkit-100323.tgz 2.81 KB
but not sure why it is reported on my drupal 6 site that the theme is not supported.
Thanks for any feed back on this.
D.

heander CreditAttribution: heander commented@jseguillon : Sure, maybe we should check with the author of http://drupal.org/project/iwebkit first? It seems it is based on iWebKit 4, so he might be interested in merging some code for the update.
@dunn : Do you have some more details about the error message?
Regards
Johan
