sreynen commentedI created a page node for about here:
http://groups.drupal.org/about-new
If no one objects, I'll swap that out for the current group page, and also change the menu link title from "About this site" to just "About" to better match other *.drupal.org sites.
I think we also need to update the page content, but that's probably a longer process. My general thoughts on that is we should focus the content on what people will be looking for on this page, and make it very short with links to more detail elsewhere.

Sahin commentedJust to add reference, #1829556: g.d.o website needs a better site usage guide is also related with this.

tvn commentedyay for this finally happening!
Definitely +1 to this.
I still think this page should be more "official", without any "posted by" and author userpic. And without the right sidebar. We then could create some more interesting multi-column layout.

sreynen commentedI agree, but don't know how to make that happen. Is there something in bluecheese for that? It would be useful on other pages as well.
tvn commentedThere is a setting at admin/build/themes/settings - "Display post information on", unchecking 'Page' there should work.
sreynen commentedWell, that was much simpler than I thought it would be. I was thinking we use pages in groups, but we don't. There's only 6 pages on the whole site, and none of them appear to need author attribute. Done!
sreynen commentedI just updated the menu link and URL. Next step: update content. I'm going to start by copying much of the current content to documentation wiki, and then I'll make a proposal here for updated/reduced content on the about page.

sreynen commentedI moved the code section from the about page to documentation, as that didn't seem very relevant to the primary audience of the page, which I think is people wanting to know what they can do on the site. This issue has been open for a couple years now and I think the original goal is complete so let's tackle additional changes in new, focused issues.
