The ribbon had previously been working for me but perhaps GitHub changed the url. I updated the left red url in the github_ribbon_urls function in github.module to point to https://s3.amazonaws.com/github/ribbons/forkme_left_red_aa0000.png and it works fine. This is based off of the urls on GitHub: https://github.com/blog/273-github-ribbons. I can change and submit a patch if you'd like.
