proximity not working with taxonomy term as entity in url

can somebody confirm this is correct, that it does not work? or is it a configuration issue i am having. i'd like to know before i spend even more time trying to resolve the issue if in fact what i am trying to accomplish is even intended to work by design. i have no problem with proximity on node entities, but i can't get it to work for taxonomy terms. thanks
