Proximity does not work if the entity from url is a taxonomy term

it works perfectly fine if the entity is a content type. i have attempted to accomplish this under numerous different testing scenarios (eg clean install, different themes, different module versions and combinations of geofield and geocoder). does anybody know if this actually even works with a term entity? i just need to know if others are actually having success with this or if it is just me and something wrong with my configuration? many thanks
