Can someone confirm that no geocoding is done if addressfield is left empty?

I don't want to take anything for granted so I thought I would ask.
If I leave my addressfield empty, geofield does not geocode right? I would hate to hit the Google api limit.
I ask because I don't know if addressfield uses a default value
