I had a bit of a problem trying to pin this down. I've recently upgraded CCK from 6.x-2.1 to 6.x-2.2 and ImageField from 6.x-3.0-alpha4 to 6.x-3.0-beta3.

The Image field recommends I upgrade Filefield to the latest beta 3 version as well (currently running FileField 6.x-3.0-alpha7). However, after i upgrade file field, the default list value no longer seems to work. The interface is a bit different and I took before and after screenshots which I've attached below to show you.

As you can see by the third attached image, list_value.jpg, disabling the list value in Beta 3 no longer is functioning and it is showing on my node pages. These fields are used when creating the content but are only called on the front page of my site and not on the actual node pages.

Any ideas?

Forgot to add that it was working fine after upgrading CCK and Imagefield. The issue started occurring only after I upgraded to Filefield 3.0-beta3.

Did you run update.php? The setting name was changed and the update filefield_update_6100() needs to run in order to migrate the setting. I can effectively disable and enable the "List field" option. The default value for the list field isn't shown unless it is enabled, since it doesn't really matter what the default is if the List field option is disabled entirely.

I upgraded a couple of hours ago to beta3 and run the upgrade.php script, and I have to acknowledge that I have the same issue: filefield was by default not listed, but now it is. I'll check what happened in 6100.

If I'm understanding correctly, the "list" property was not working properly when you first upgraded, but now it is. What did you do to make the list value start working? Did you resave the field configuration?

@quicksketch Sorry, I was a bit hasty while posting my comment. I had a running setup before the upgrade, in which I had set by deafult: do not list file fields. After the upgrade, all file fields are shown by default and whatever I tried, I can't get it to hide the file fields. So, no, I couldn't solve it so far. Sorry foe the confusion.

Sorry I'm still not clear on what the problem is. Everything operates normally as far as I can tell.

Could someone provide the following?
- What were your FileField settings (admin/content/node-type/[type]/fields/[field_name]) before upgrading?
- After upgrading, what's the behavior on the node/add/x form that contains the FileField. Does it show the "List" checkbox"? Does it have the correct value? What value was it supposed to have?
- What are the FileField settings after upgrading?

Behavior before upgrade: all file fields were not listed by default and the option to list file field was disabled, as in this screen shot
After upgrade: the file fields are shown by default, however the admin form shows this

I played with the current settings and here are my findings for the List field form field

(i) Disabled: shows all the currently hidden file fields on the node page
(ii) Enabled + 'Files listed by default' unchecked: hides all the currently hidden file fields on the node page by default + shows checkbox for user to list file + for a new file, the checkbox will be unchecked
(iii) Enabled + 'Files listed by default' checked: hides all currently hidden file fields by default on the node page + shows checkbox for the user to list the file + for a new file, the checkbox will be checked

(ii) and (iii) are working fine
(i) is having a bug according to me for currently hidden file fields.

My use case only prefers to hide all file fields by default because users use the inline filter to display the attached images inside the page. However, with beta3 I'm not able to get this settings anymore. Option (ii) is coming close, but according to me, option (i) should do it but has a bug.

AHHH! Thank you toemaz! That's exactly what I needed.

Okay, this is actually intentional behavior. The option to "force default" and have the default be "Hidden" was a redundant configuration option, so it was removed. If you want to force files to be hidden, you can edit the display options at admin/content/node-type/[type]/display and check the "Exclude" box to prevent that field from being shown and it accomplishes the same goal.

One new side effect: I don't succeed to hide the filefield on a print friendly output. On admin/content/node-type/[node-type]/display there is no secondary tab for 'Print', as opposed to Basic, RSS and others. If anyone crosses the same issue and fixed it, could you share it?

What module are you using for Print versions? I usually just have a print.css file to format the site for printers rather than making a separate version of the pages.

For print, I tested with the core print friendly output for book node type as well as the print module. In both cases the filefields where displayed. But as you advised: I use css now to hide the filefields. Thanks!

With Generic file selected in displayed fields instead of "image" it is working so it's exactly the same issue as http://drupal.org/node/305238 I think.

I a problem very similar to this one. The picture is not checked to be listed but is shown anyway.

I use :
CCK 6.x-2.2
FileField 6.x-3.0-rc1
ImageField 6.x-3.0-rc1

In "Manage fields" tabs :
The image field in my cck content type has the following Global settings :
List field : enabled
File listed by default : not checked

In "Display fields" tabs :
The image field has selected for teaser and full node.

In content the "list" checkbox is not checked.
I use the Garland theme.

And my image is displayed...

Any help ?
