Hi,

Fancy box is much better replacement to lighbox from aesthetic point of view and I was pleasantly surprised to see a drupal module for it, but also was disappointed seeing not much activity and usage due to lack of a stable release for drupal 6. Though last release was in march 2010, we still dont have a stable release which I think is restricting people (including myself) using it in production. Can the module maintainers please outline plan for the stable release and what are the obstacles? It would also be useful if you guys can lay out the specific issues which needs solving for stable reason to happen.

If you need more help from development point of view and to nail out some issues, I would be happy to help and in general should be put on project page asking people to contribute.

Drupal moving on to 7, it really becomes important that we atleast have 6 release as soon as possible. I would be willing to help.

Hi,

from the feedback received so far, we are having few major issues blocking stable release:

  1. problematic drupal_to_js that passes wrong variable types causing unexpected behavior (few open issues caused by this)
  2. fancybox.css IE alpha filters #745252: IE issues with 1.3.1 (slow-down/crashes)
  3. check for collisions with reported modules: IMCE, jQuery highlight... #781570: clash with module jQuery Map Hilight,#774282: fancybox conflict with IMCE

Looks like, stable release is closer that I thought :)

I always use dev versions where available (in order to help with development progress), but a stable release would indeed yield more users. This in turn will bring more testers and result to better QA in the end. So, keep it up ;)

I guess these need to be addressed too before releasing a final stable (not blocking a few alphas/betas or an RC though):

#767432: emvideo support - mostly ready and committed to latest devs. all that's left is documentation and people's test feedback
#742236: emaudio support - no progress yet but the previous issue has paved the way I think.
#742234: HTML content - one last thing so that all content 'types' supported by the the Fancybox jQuery plugin are also supported by the fancybox drupal module.

Well as far I can tell #742234: HTML content is just a documentation issue if an issue at all. I would like to see #957808: Fancybox not respecting imagecache preset class in before a stable, that is a real issue with our sites at the moment.

@igorik: "fancybox requires jquery_update, which in turn might conflict with our jquery usage", so I guess even if we have FB stable there might be other issues. Anyway you are having the point, we should release stable ASAP :)

As a big fan of fancyBox, i was pleased to see a drupal module for this. I'm very curious for a 6.x stable release.

Meanwhile testing the 6.x.dev version, but i understand why most people only choose stable releases.
