The dates in my calendar in list view have tags around them, and I can't figure out why. How do I remove them?

Took me a while to figure it out .. the <em> is added by these lines in the /includes/theme.inc file.

function theme_placeholder($text) {
  return '<em>'. check_plain($text) .'</em>';
}

Just remove the <em>'s . If anyone else has a better idea please let us know.

Yes, that does seem to work, but I'd rather not change a system core file. One way that worked for me was to edit the event.theme file by replacing

$stamp = _event_mktime(0, 0, 0, $month, $day, $year);
$output = '<div class="day">'. t('%weekday %month %day, %year', array('%weekday' => t(format_date($stamp, 'custom', 'l')), '%month' => t(format_date($stamp, 'custom', 'F')), '%day' => $day, '%year' => $year)) .'</div>'."\n";
break;

with this

$stamp = _event_mktime(0, 0, 0, $month, $day, $year);
$output = '<div class="day">'. t(format_date($stamp, 'custom', 'l, F j, Y')) .'</div>'."\n";
break;

Turns out the the original code sends the date through the theme_placeholder function by using t(%variable).

The proper way is to re-.implement theme functions from core or event.theme in your theme and make changes there.
