I started using drupal, i18n, ecommerce to rebuild our current website w/ shop.
We sell printshop products, e.g. business cards, stationery, envelopes, markers, etc.
Our current pricing looks like this:
QTY DESC PRICE UNIT
100 Business Cards ... 20.83 Pack of 100
200 Business Cards ... 37.50 Pack of 100
200 Business Cards ... 62.50 Pack of 100
I think of adding a price list management module as an addon to the products.module (like the implementation of the tangible.module).
The features I envision so far:
- Create, edit and delete price lists
- Assign to products (1 to n)
- Update cart
Following questions so far:
- price_unit is varchar (e.g. PCK, PCE, SET, ...)?
- I need price_unit_qty (INT), to specify qty per unit (e.g. 100 Cards per PCK), should go into ec_product, ec_transaction_product?
Any input and suggestions welcome.
Thank you to all of you drupal and the great modules!
Kurt

AlanT commentedThis is something that is valuable for many types of stores. I don't have the programming skills nor the time required to build such a module, but I would like to see it developed.
One thing that many carts have is a way to offer quantity discounts for a single product, but lack the ability to offer quantity discounts across a category of products.
For example, if I sell t-shirts or cds and want to offer a discount for buying 3 or more, most carts would only give a discount if the customer purchased 3 or more of the same item (such as the same CD) instead of allowing the customer to choose 3 different CDs to get the discount.
If a quantity discount module gets developed, it should allow for enough flexibility to allow for category-based quantity discounts.
Also, the discounts need to be specified as either a percentage discount, or a new price.
And finally, if an affiliate module is to be successful, discounts must be tracked per product in order to offer different commission levels per product. This is also important if the order needs to be adjusted after it is placed. For instance, if a customer returns an item and no longer qualifies for the discount.
The most flexible implementation of this that I have seen is a "price adjusting" module for another system. In that module, every time the cart contents were displayed, it would parse a set of adjustment rules to see if any discounts were available, and if so, adjusted the price dynamically. This prevented a customer from entering a quantity into the cart to get a discount, and then removing some later and keeping the discount.
What I'd like to see from the administration interface would be a screen to define the discounts, and the following options:
1) Define which discounts may co-exist and which ones may not.
2) Define what order to parse the discount rules (similar to the weighting system in menus)
3) Define multiple conditions to trigger the discount [ie- Condition A OR (Condition B AND Condition C)]
4) Define multiple discounts that are triggered by the condition group (ie - $2.04 off Product 1, 25% off Product 2, 10% all products in cart, $7 off each product from Category 7, etc.)
5) Condition may include total spent in store to date (lifetime, year, month, etc.), total amount of order, number of qualifying items, user role, user points, etc.
6) Discounts may include free shipping, an upgraded membership upon successful payment, user points, specified product(s) added to order (at no extra charge), etc.
At the moment, this seems to provide enough flexibility to offer any sort of discount schedule that a store owner may wish to use.
Thanks.

brmassa commentedKurt,
well, your need is quite simple to fix using current code:
create 3 products "100 business cards", "200 business cards", "300 business cards".
more complex solutions, like incremental discount, will need yes modifications or a flexicharge-like plugin.
regards,
massa
