Non-shippable tangible item?

I don't see it anywhere in here, so I thought I would request it. (Of course, I could be missing something, and if this is the case, please direct me to the correct resources).

What I need is the ability to create items that aren't shippable and are available only for local pick-up or delivery. I don't really want the hassle of shipping to who-knows-where, but there doesn't seem to be a real way to get around the shipping part. For this feature, I wouldn't even require addresses, since all of that would be arranged outside of the ecommerce system, and paypal works fine to validate billing addresses if the customers don't care to pay via COD.

I don't think this is difficult, and like I said, I am probably overlooking existing functionality, but I really wouldn't know where to get started on this. Any help would be appreciated.
