So ive created a custom entity with views support but in views i cant see the "display suite" option as show for this custom entity, is there a hook I have to implement to get it working?

In drupal 7 the views support doesn't really work for any entity. It's kinda core entity based.
This is fixed in D8.

Please look at the views code in Display Suite, it's not that scary, maybe you can find your solution there.
