Hello there,

i have a drupal running for several months with a custom view mode for a custom content type, working great... but today i tried to create a new view mode and the option is not showing up on the manage presentation tab...

i guess something is broken on my DB or some weird interaction with other modules... dunno... but i have no idea how to debbug it... can you please point me to the right direction here? what should i check?

Here you have to screenshot showing that i have selected the view_mode to appear on the contenttype but it doesnt... the "Fitxa propietat" view mode, is a ds view mode too, but created some time ago.

same problem here.

I create a view mode. I enable the view mode under the content type display suite settings. I configure the view mode, but it does not list in the node edit display settings as an option.

I have done this multiple times in the past. Something changed so that I cannot make a new node view mode available. Frustrating.

I did just add a new user display mode and that worked. However, I cannot for node bundles.

An ideas?

Again I do have custom node display types already created that are available in the display settings select box. However, somethings changed so that I cannot add a new one.

Another thought, my recent new display type was cloned from another display type that had a custom block associated with it. When I cloned the display it did not complain, but it didn't clone the custom block either. I thought perhaps that might have broken things, so I tried to create a new display type without cloning, but that did not work either.

Also is there a maximum number of display types? I have 6.

Two things...

1.

I just realized that this issue is slightly different than mine. The original poster is able to create the view mode, but it is not showing up in the manage display area for the content type. In my case I can create the view mode and manage it as well in the manage display area for the content type. However, then the new display type is not available in the display settings select choices when editing a node.

Shall I create a new issue?

2. I also further tested that this problem exists for multiple content type in my setup. So the problem is more universal that a particular display type. Also I have no Display Suite patched installed and I am using version 7.x-2.11.

ok - figured it out. Display Suite Extras provides a way to control the view modes available when editing a node. To control this edit the content type and find the Display Suite Extras tab and enable the view mode. Wow, great feature, but maddening to realize what was going on.

Thanks for the reminder, @webservant316.
But, what if the custom view mode doesn't show up in the list of possible view modes in the Display Suite Extras tab?

randell’s picture

I'm encountering the same issue as #10.

AliMartin’s picture

I'm also experiencing the issue cited at #10.

AlexaSz’s picture

I'm experiencing the original issue as well as the issue stated in #10.

My custom view mode doesn't appear in the content type "Display Suite Extras" tab as well. I am using 7.x-2.14. Clearing cache doesn't help.

thulenb’s picture

Did someone of you find a solution for issue #10?

webservant316’s picture

perhaps check the Display Suite Extras permissions.

thulenb’s picture

Permissions for DS 'Administer view modes' are set correctly but custom view modes don't show up. Thanks anyway for your response.

Pulled out my bloodhound coder nose and I think the problem is on line 454 of ds_extras.module (7.x-2.14). You're testing for "custom_settings" and a dpm of the $ds_vm array seems to have "custom settings" (missing underscore) so the $item does not get assigned to the $view_modes array. Not sure where the "custom settings" attribute gets created yet, but that may help you backtrack.

Sorry, spoke too soon about the TRUE/FALSE settings... Line 450, $view_mode_settings = field_view_mode_settings($type, $bundle); appears to be missing the newly created view mode, but the $ds_vm does have the custom view modes in it. Have not helped debug any modules before (notice this issue was closed), so if I need to work with the maintainers another way, please advise. Thanks and I'll continue to learn the logic of the ds_extras_get_bundle_view_modes.
