Problem/Motivation
It has been years since the last review of mentoring coordinators section of MAINTAINERS.txt. Since that review, some people have defacto stepped down and some have stepped up to lead the mentoring efforts.
Proposed resolution
1. Ask all people currently listed as core mentoring coordinators:
- Chris Darke 'chrisdarke' https://www.drupal.org/u/chrisdarke
- Mauricio Dinarte 'dinarcon' https://www.drupal.org/u/dinarcon
- Brian Gilbert 'realityloop' https://www.drupal.org/u/realityloop
- Lucas Hedding 'heddn' https://www.drupal.org/u/heddn
- AmyJune Hineline 'volkswagenchick' https://www.drupal.org/u/volkswagenchick
- Tara King 'sparklingrobots' https://www.drupal.org/u/sparklingrobots
- Rachel Lawson 'rachel_norfolk' https://www.drupal.org/u/rachel_norfolk
- Elli Ludwigson 'ekl1773' https://www.drupal.org/u/ekl1773
- Jess Myrbo 'xjm' https://www.drupal.org/u/xjm
- Matthew Radcliffe 'mradcliffe' https://www.drupal.org/u/mradcliffe
2. Move people who have stepped down, to the past maintainers page
3. Remove people who have stepped down from MAINTAINERS.txt
4. Add new de-facto coordinators: https://www.drupal.org/project/mentoring/issues/3516253 (will move to core queue when ready)
Remaining tasks
- Final RTBC by another coordinator and merge
Issue fork drupal-3454075

Start within a Git clone of the project using the version control instructions.

volkswagenchickI no longer have the time and resources to be a mentoring coordinator for the Drupal project.
You can remove me from the MAINTAINERS.txt file
Thanks

heddnI have the time and the energy to continue to mentor. But I haven't been to any drupal events where mentoring happens for several years. I think that means I should have my name dropped. :sadpanda:
mradcliffeI was not able to fulfill my duties effectively as a coordinator in 2023 due to an unforeseen event in my life, but I am trying to adjust and reinvigorate myself to be effective. I would like to continue, especially to work on getting the changes to the coordinator position ready for review.
xjmI will be contributing in my role for the coming year.
Thanks @volkswagenchick for everything over the past years!
chrisdarke commentedThanks to @ volkswagenchick for putting in so much energy to helping keep things afloat the last few years, you deserve a bit of a rest too! I will keep trying to get the charter sorted out, and as long as I can afford it will be going to as many events as possible along with the time spent during the month on comms and planning.
chrisdarke commentedI have contacted the remaining coordinators to get a response within the next 2 weeks so this can get closed out.
rachel_norfolkAs I am now “back in the Drupal Community” (honestly, do we ever really leave?), I’m keen to get back into mentoring coordination. Looking forward to Barcelona!
realityloop commentedI still want to be involved, but unsure how much value I can provide if I'm not going to be at events?
I do miss seeing you all in person though!
ekl1773Thank you all for so many exceptionally meaningful contributions! I haven't been very active for a couple years now so I suppose I should be retired as well. However, I would like to be sure there are more folks in the pipeline to step up and that no one is left with a lot of extra work... I'm still around and pingable to help in whatever ways are helpful, but unlikely to turn up in person for the time being. And yeah, I miss everyone too!

quietone commentedIssues are fixes on the development branch first.
dinarcon commentedThanks to all mentoring coordinators for their impactful contributions! As for me, it is time to step down. I make mentoring activities a priority in the events I attend. But I have not been able to assist much with advance planning/coordination. I am still around and look forward to continue contributing to mentoring efforts to the extent possible.
mradcliffeI created an issue fork branch with an initial commit, but I think it is Needs work because Lucas, Elli and Brian had similar questions about participating without being physically at events so I did not want to remove their names yet.
gábor hojtsyI think the question then is what kind of contributions does the mentoring team need that the remote participants can help with :) If there are matches, great!
rachel_norfolkI’d say the question isn’t just about what kind of contributions does the mentoring team need from the coordinators on this list but what contribution, guidance and leadership can they continue to give. There are a whole bunch of ways they can (and do) give that - through running meetings, encouraging volunteers, recruiting future coordinators and mentoring them. It’s definitely more than what takes place “in the room” on contrib day at DrupalCon.
I think the question those who are unsure need to ask themselves is do they want to engage with new mentors, help to build their experience, and develop them into the coordinators of tomorrow. If so, they’re definitely a coordinator and being on the list is the right place to be. If they feel they have “done their part” (and everyone mentioned has played a big part!) then that is also fine.
rachel_norfolkSo, for example:
@heddn, @realityloop, @ekl1773 - you have the time and energy to contribute, just not the “access” to the actual events. Would you be amenable to things like helping to run the monthly meetings in Slack a couple of times a year? Or perhaps helping to coordinate some of the issue triage exercises? Each of those things are definitely remote-accessible and help us keep things moving.
If we could have an indication either way, that would help us push this issue forward.
And, for the record, I miss you all terribly, too!
ekl1773Ah, well in that case yes, I can step up to run meetings sometimes! I miss doing that ^-^
Comment #20
realityloop commentedAs the meetings are largely async now.. Yes I should be able to
Comment #21
lostcarpark commentedI'm relatively new, but if I can help, I would be happy to be added to the list (or also happy to help without being on the list). I've run a couple of the meetings in the past.
rachel_norfolkOkay, let’s get this moving…
On February 14th, we will update the list according to these rules:
Thanks
Comment #23
realityloop commentedI'm not really sure when meetings are occurring.. I'm sure I used to get notifications somehow (as they used to pretty much occur while I am asleep, Australia sux for that) .. but 'm pretty sure they are done in an async fasion now right?
lostcarpark commented@realityloop, they are on the second Wednesday of every month at 20:00 UTC, which I think converts to between 04:00 and 07:00 depending where in Australia you are, which I agree is not a great time for participating. They are deliberately async, so you can continue to contribute to the conversations for at least a day, and it's not uncommon for threads to still be active for several days.
mradcliffeBased on some discussion at DrupalCon Atlanta, we need to merge the changes that have already decided upon.
I am going to create a new Update Mentoring Coordinators section in MAINTAINERS.txt in the Mentoring project for the Mentoring Working Group (MWG) to elicit feedback and evaluation from Mentoring Coordinators. And then once that is ready, we can move into the Core issue queue and create a merge request.
I added AmyJune, Tara, and Mauricio to the Past core maintainers page because they have already stepped down their role.
