Is it possible to backup a module folder (or create a version) for the module from drupal UI (similar to the contributed module 'backup and migrate') before updating it from drupal 'available updates' interface?

Sorry to revert it back to 7x. It would be nice to have it as part of 'Drupal 8x'., but what I need is some suggestion about how to do it in drupal 7 (that's why 'support request')

Oh, okay. Well then the answer then is no, there is not currently a way to do it in Drupal core.

A contributed module could be written to do it, but one does not exist yet as far as I know.

I think Drush will allow you to do these backups on the command line. Otherwise you'll have to manually make a copy via (S)FTP or similar.

Ok, thanks for your time. I will put it as a feature request for 8x like you suggested and try it in contributed modules section (for 7x).
