Getting your post on the Drupal.org front page

The drupal.org front page is reserved for announcements and features of braod interest to the Drupal community. We strive to keep the front page fresh, by adding new content, but we want to limit new posts to one per day.

Normally, you do not need to submit content for promotion to the front page. The drupal.org site maintainers constantly scan for Drupal-related articles that are worthy of front page status. See the Site maintainer's guide for details on the front page promotion policy. Note that only posts on drupal.org can be promoted to the front page.

If you feel that we have overlooked an important article, event or notice, you may request a review of that content by the site maintainers. Before submitting your request, ask yourself:

  • Is the content is of broad interest to the Drupal community?
  • Has the content been posted to Drupal.org?
  • Is the content time-sensitive, like an event?
  • Has the content been edited appropriately?

Posts that are accepted for the front page will be added to the existing publication schedule. Before you submit your request for review, please review your drupal.org post and keep in mind the following guidelines:

  • Check the current schedule for front page posts. We try to space out similar topics
  • Requests must be submitted at least three (3) days in advance of the desired publication date.
  • Posts should use <!--break--> appropriately, so that the front page 'teaser' is one or two short paragraphs.
  • Images are allowed, but must be hosted on drupal.org.
  • Check your spelling and your English grammar. The Handbook style guide is a good resource.

After you have written, edited and reviewed your post, you should file an issue with the drupal.org webmasters. Title your post as Front page review: #####, where #### is the node id of your drupal.org post. Include a short description of why your post is worthy of the front page and any additional information -- especially time-sensitivity -- that will help the site maintainers. You should also requests a specific date for your post to be promoted.

Read this sample post from the front page to get an idea of what we are after. Note that the post is formatted with a brief 'teaser' for better presentation. The sample code is below:

<a href="http://bryght.com"><img src="http://drupal.org/files/bryght-promo-logo.jpg" alt="Bryght Logo" align="right"></a>

Some of you may have noticed we recently gave the Bryght hosting system a facelift and added some functionality under the hood. Bryght Drupal hosting combines a custom install profile with a tuned hosting environment, incorporating best practices used on Drupal.org, to make a fully functional, out-of-the-box VPS.
<!--break-->

Note that the review of your submission may take time, so be sure to submit at least three (3) days in advance of when you would like the post to appear on the front page.

There's an issue in the webmaster's queue on #357378: Improving the frontpage process. I think that that's a prerequisite to this issue. We can then incorporate the agreed process on the doc page. I posted there a link to this issue as well.

I think this one can be closed. I looked at the revision history of http://drupal.org/node/280488, and it has incorporated most of these ideas since I originally posted this issue.

Look at the earliest drafts (prior to 11-SEP-2008) to see why I proposed this in the first place.
