Ensure all Drupal.org stakeholders understand the need for a coherent, consistent strategy of content in general for Drupal.org to prevent fractured documentation and other content on drupal.org.

I believe we need to raise this issue with all stakeholders on drupal.org to prevent the content blowing out into various silo's of varying stages of out-of-date, duplicated, inaccurate, superseded content.

This issue should be used to convey to various teams such as Drupal Association, Documentation teams, Marketing etc to acknowledge that we absolutely must work together to deliver a single, unified strong Drupal.org content experience to enhance the reputation and "learnability" of the Drupal project and ensure that anyone coming to Drupal should not ever have to suffer from various content issues such that are mentioned in https://www.drupal.org/project/documentation/issues/2968619

Suggestions of strategies to overcome atleast some of the issues of out of date content are welcome, some ideas could be

  • Introduce a "review by" date field, so a single view could list content that has time-sensitive content (Plenty of pages still advertise Drupal 8 as "coming soon")
  • Drupal Association should recognise that their message to the community in the form of pages added to Drupal.org shall also take into consideration the existing extensive and resource intensive work undertaken by the User Guides team.
  • Identify a new inter-organisational role called "Drupal.org Content Strategist" whos responsibility is to ensure any content on Drupal.org adheres to this issue, who appreciates the needs of the various Drupal organisations but who can have some power to ensure the content generated by those teams does not contravene this hopefully new policy.

Hope this helps, happy to volunteer time where possible to tie this together - I believe without this, we will again end up with a lot of fractured confusing content even after a lot of amazing work from a lot of people who's volunteered time is very valuable.

I wonder if revisiting the personas developed during some of the initial Drupal.org redesign might be useful in sorting some of this out? https://www.drupal.org/drupalorg/personas

I know for me part of having a cohesive strategy means having tools in place to help me make decisions, especially with regards to moderating existing content on Drupal.org. And/or helping try to answer questions from others working on documentation. As well as wanting to be able to help resolve bike shedding. And I think having tools like personas that you can point to and say, "See, we're doing this because we believe it'll benefit X, which is one of our main goals."
