Would this also remove tags overridden/set by the Meta Tag module? Which i think by default sets canonical_url: [site:url]

Or you're saying it should not be set at all, even to the site URL?

Feel this would at least need to be an option (and the code should only start to execute if the option is checked and we are on a customerror path), or we just recommend people install MetaTag module.
