Commerce Make-to-Order brings make-to-order (MTO) production workflow management to Commerce. It is built for stores that manufacture, craft or assemble products after purchase: custom furniture, handmade goods, fashion ateliers, print on demand. Each order item becomes a production order that the team tracks from queue to quality check to completion, with the parent Commerce order following along automatically.

Features

  • MTO order entity with a configurable state_machine production workflow (Draft, Queued, Waiting for Materials, In Production, Quality Check, Rework, Completed, Canceled)
  • Automatic creation of one production order per order item when a Commerce order reaches a configured state
  • Production order numbers via Commerce Number Pattern (e.g. MTO-2026-00001)
  • Assignment to team members, priority levels, due dates with overdue highlighting and auto-calculated estimated completion dates
  • Internal notes, transition notes and team notes with optional email notification
  • Activity log timeline (Commerce Log) and full state history with per-state timing
  • Production analytics: bottleneck detection, team performance, materials wait analysis, QC metrics, on-time delivery and throughput
  • Two integration modes with the parent Commerce order: direct state sync, or shipment integration through Commerce Shipping
  • Configurable hold states: order states that automatic promotion never overrides (a note is logged instead)
  • Dashboard widget, pre-configured admin listing with exposed filters, and Drush commands

Post-Installation

Configure MTO order types at /admin/commerce/config/mto-order-types: pick the production workflow, the number pattern, the Commerce order state that triggers auto-creation, and how completion syncs back to the Commerce order (direct state sync or shipment integration). The production team then works from the listing at /admin/commerce/mto-orders, with analytics at /admin/commerce/mto-orders/analytics.

Additional Requirements

  • Commerce Shipping enables the shipment integration mode: production orders link to the checkout shipment and the Commerce order is promoted to a ready state when all of them complete.
