Save internal links without basePath

Sorry module maintainers, this issue is like a boomerang, I have linked to related (duplicate some of which are D6) issues:

In each of our Dev, Staging and production environments the base path of the site is not the same, and saving internal links to the DB with the basepath causes issues.

• When a site goes from staging to production and the client decides at the 11th hour that the base path should change
• When we build an instance of a site in our Dev environment it serves off a temp domain without a basepath

Yes I am aware of the module Pathologic and we are using it to convert links, but if the basePath is prepended to the internal path, there is extra Pathologic configuration that has to be done.
