I added ckeditor_stylesheets: to my site's info.yml . When the link was - assets/css/main_pip.styles.css it didn't work. When I changed my stylesheet's name to main_pip.css and linked ckeditor_stylesheets: it to assets/css/main_pip.css it worked. I seems the extra period throws it off.

main_pip.styles.css - didn't work
main_pip.css - worked

Hah, great find! To fix this, we'll first need a failing test that reproduces the problem. Do you think . you could do that?

Hi Wim, I have not written a test before but I have been meaning to learn! I am overwhelmed with work but if I this isn't super urgent I promise to work on this in a few weeks. Cheers, Steve

No worries! I'm happy to help you do it.

Fortunately Drupal core already has a similar test, that you can use as an example to guide you. See \Drupal\Tests\ckeditor\Functional\CKEditorLoadingTest::testExternalStylesheets() (test) + core/modules/system/tests/themes/test_ckeditor_stylesheets_external/test_ckeditor_stylesheets_external.info.yml (the test theme used in that test).
