I downloaded and extracted CCK 6.x-2.0-beta and copied it to the modules directory (I'm used to this procedure). In the modules page. In the updates report (http://localhost/?q=admin/reports/updates) CCK is displayed as unsupported.

It's probably just too new. It shows up right on the project page. If it doesn't fix itself in the next day or so, re-open this issue.
