I have tried to install the CCK module but when I enable it and click save configuration the next page I see is "Fatal error: Call to undefined function content_type_update() in /home/crossfi1/public_html/modules/content/content.module on line 820"
I am new to drupal so any help with this would be great! Any ideas

yched commentedcontent.module line 820 in CCK 1.5 is
which can't be the error.
I guess you're running either a modified version (then please indicate what is _your_ code around line 820, or a version that is not 1.5 as advertised (then please tell what version)
Plus :
- in Drupal 5, it is advised you do not put contrib modules in 'modules/', but in 'sites/all/modules/'
- what is this 'content' folder ? cck's content.module is packaged in a folder called 'cck', not 'content'.
I mean, are you sure it's cck you're running ?

yched commentedOk, looking a little closer at the issue, it seems something is screwed in your install.
content_type_update is called only once in content.module, and the file where the function is defined (content_crud.inc) is included the line above.
So it seems that the file is either missing, or can't be found - maybe related to the strange 'content' module I mentioned above ?
Anyway, I think you should download the CCK tarball again, and make sure you're uploading it correctly on your server. Then, revisit the admin/build/modules page and re-enable content.module if needed (re-submit the form anyway)
