Inserting extra lines <p> into the editor after every save

Problem/Motivation

I am maintaining and providing support for a Panopoly site using Caption Filter module. The site is also using Workbench.

During the editing process, before publishing an article, every time the site editor saves the article a new empty paragraph tag is inserted immediately after the image. These paragraph tags do not effect the public display of the article. But, in the WYSIWYG editor they accumulate and are very annoying.

This happens once the caption filter has been enabled regardless of whether or not a caption is present. The only way to eliminate the problem is to remove the [caption] tags in HTML mode.

I don't know if this a bug in the module or the result of a conflict/config problem on a fairly complicated site.

Any thoughts on how we can continue to create captions without endlessly adding unnecessary

tags in our articles and having to remove them.
