Hello.
I am having a hard time trying to get this to work in drupal 7.
I installed the module and enabled it. However, I can't seem to be able to find anything related to captcha in the administrative interface. I can only see this message in admin/config/development/performance
CAPTCHA advertencia The CAPTCHA module will disable the caching of pages that contain a CAPTCHA element.
That seems to indicate that the module is indeed active. But if I press the link to configure it in admin/modules, it just takes me to admin/config/people, and there's no captcha element in there.
It's been a couple of days playing with this. There's still a chance that I've missed something silly, but I am stuck so any help is welcome.
Thank you beforehand :)

densolis commentedHi,
Can you go to Home » Administration » Modules and then find the Captcha module. It should be checked as enabled. At the end of the Captcha module line, you will see Help, Permissions, and Configure.
Click on configure.
This will enable you to specify on which forms the challenge will appear. Choose which form the challenge should appear. I normally enable the site wide contact form and enable the challenge on that screen. I do this mainly as a test to make sure I have it installed correctly.
Finally, make sure you are logged in as someone other than admin. This is because admin is setup to skip the challenge. (It took me about 20 minutes to figure out this issue when I first installed it.)
You can go to the site wide contact form and the challenge should appear at the bottom of the form.
If you have done all of this, let me know and we will try something else.

i92guboj commentedThanks for the response. However I already tried all that.
I go to Home » Administration » Modules, scroll down to captcha. It's enabled.
I also enabled the captcha image module, just in case. But I guess just captcha should work for testing purposes.
I continue clicking on the "configure" link, in the captcha module line. That, as I told you in my first post, takes me to admin/config/people, which lists the usual links to block ips and to account options. No captcha link in there.
That's my whole problem. I can't seem to reach the captcha admin interface at all.
I know the module is loaded because in the performance admin tab I can see the warning about captcha vs. caches. But for the rest I can't reach the admin interface, and I see no other sign of the module being working.
ps: I forgot to tell you I tried truncating the menu cache table, because I saw some people having a similar problem and solving it that way. It didn't work for me, though. I am using drupal 7.15, delaying the upgrade to 7.16 until I polish some rough edges.

soxofaan commentedHave you already tried disabling and enabling the module?
i92guboj commentedYes. First thing I tried.

densolis commentedi92guboj,
Have you tried uninstalling the module(s), deleting the modules directories, and re-downloading them?
I'm grasping at straws at this point.
The path for the captcha config form is /admin/config/people/captcha
I checked, both the configuration Home » Administration Module » captcha configuration button and the Home » Administration » Configuration » People » Captcha take me to this link.
Do you have clean urls turned on? This might be why you might be why the manual links might not be working. (again grasping at straws).
You are running drupal 7.15 and captcha 7.x-1.0-beta2 - correct?
On a different note, You don't need to postpone going to 7.16. I looked at the git differences. While every module has changed, 99.9 % of the changes was the date / time stamp that Drupal puts on each module.
Only one module has really changed (I forget the name of it) and it was a one line change in an IF statement. The original if statement was just checking for one condition. It now checks for two conditions. Took all of 10 minutes to install and I don't believe that there is even a update.php to run.

i92guboj commentedYes. I tried that as well.
I have, indeed, clean urls on, so you might have a point there. I'll try that later.
I've been giving a thought to this issue, and I have remebered that it's not the first time I hit a similar issue.
A few days ago I tried the ShareThis social module, and clicking its configure link also took me to a previous path level in the admin panel. I think I've also seen the same in the theme switcher module (in this case I can just add the defult block and use that, but I remember I wasn't able to enter its config.
So, there's a chance that something is screwing my drupal globally.
I've rewritten some bits of code in ubercart but nothing in drupal core.
In anycase, a big thank you goes to all of you.

i92guboj commentedDisabling clean urls didn't make a difference.
densolis commentedSorry, I wish I could have helped more. Good luck. If you do find the solution, please post it here as I would love to know what caused the issue and how you fixed it.

i92guboj commentedDon't worry. I can't but thank you for trying :)
If I happen to find out where the problem lies I'll post here.
edit: typo
Comment #10
i92guboj commentedConfirmed, there's something horribly broken in either my site or the server.
No new module will create menu links.
Not that this is on-topic, but, can you tell me if there's a possibility that this could be caused by db corruption? I say cause I installed the schema module and it says something interesting. I can't reach its admin interface either, but in the drupal status report I can see it outputs this:
How that came to happen... I can't really tell. The problem is that if I click the details link it doesn't work either. I am tempted to re-do everything at this point. No admin tool that I install will work so unless I figure how to fix this up by hand (and I am not that familiar with the drupal/ubercart db structures) I see no other option.
Well, for what related to this thread, I think we can safely assume that this is not a problem with captcha. That's indeed the lesser of my problems right now.

densolis commentedi92guboj,
Sorry, your question is over my head. I wish I could help. If you have irc chat, you might try posting you question on #drupal-support. Quite a few people hang out there.
Good luck.

i92guboj commentedI, somehow, managed to get this working with some mysql microsurgery. I also did some module cleaning and reinstalled a lot of modules. A big suspect is imagecache, at least after uninstalling and reinstalling it, everything started working again and all the modules with lost admin link were suddenly working fine.
It turns this was never a captcha issue at all, so, sorry for all the noise.
Again, thank you :)
densolis commentedWonderful! I'm glad you got it working and you posted your solution here.
Thanks again.

GAtherton commentedI just had a very similar thing happen to me. No CAPTCHA config page findable, nothing in main menu. Emtied all caches, ran updates.
Update reported 2 errors, both referring to Media browser plus module.
Disabled module, can now config CAPTCHA

cprofessionals commentedI had a similar issue and it turned out to be permissions.
Under permissions you have to grant "Administer CAPTCHA settings" to the administrator.
Hope this helps.

snaisel commentedI use "Registry Rebuild"

And everything works again
