Is this module still support bbcode "natively" like it says? As I just installed it on my Drupal 8.8, configure the text editor and text formats, but still cannot make it work with bbcode. A simple bbcode like `[b]strong[/b]` not rendered correctly.

Bueditor does not do any rendering itself. You may try modules like https://www.drupal.org/project/xbbcode that provides an input formatter.
