jcnventuraNo, there's no way to do it with the module as provided.
However, it's trivial to do this: create your own PHP block and call adsense_display(array('format' => $format, 'slot' => $id) where format is something like '160x600' and id is the ad ID. You just have to create some logic to pass slot ID A half the time and slot ID B on the other half.

nicholasthompsonThanks for the response, however this is not true AB testing.
Your suggestion relies on the site having page caching disabled; mine doesn't. I am currently testing a concept which allows you to provide comma separated slot ID's into a block config. The module then converts these into a JS array, shuffles them and pops the first one out and uses that as the slot ID... It seems to be working but I want to test it a bit more before releasing it as a patch.
If its release - would it be possible to include it into the module? It would be very handy to have...

nicholasthompsonOk it seems to be working... Any thoughts?
PS: The patch seems to also include my "block per page" cache rather than "block per role"... This was a resolution to a separate issue where block sometimes got cached with the "too many per page" if they were first visited on a page with too many ads. That then cause the rest of the site to display a blank ad.

nicholasthompsonI'm currently running this patch on my adsense install on www.thingy-ma-jig.co.uk (on the 336x288 block at the top right). The block should switch (50:50 roughly) between 2 managed ads. At the time of writing, I am comparing the difference between blended ads (color scheme to match my sites CSS) and a contrasting scheme (red titles, green urls).
Over the last 24 hours, I appear to be getting a rough 50:50 split. It's not precisely 50:50 due to the nature of
Math.random(), however its not too far off and it's giving me a live test for day-to-day traffic. The other way, of course is to simple switch the adsense managed slot ID's on the blocks on a daily basis but that is not true AB testing as each day could bring different traffic to your site (different campaigns, different day of week... too many variables).

jcnventuraNice to know you got it working. I won't include this patch in the module, as I think it's a bit specific (a proper sub-module to handle A-B testing would be considered for inclusion, but this is too much of an hack).
Anyway, it's here for others to use if they should want it.

nicholasthompsonOh that's a shame. I thought it was an easy win for the module... I'm not a marketing person myself but I was under the inpression that true AB testing was one of the best ways to improve your revenue..
Just means I'm gonna have to continue to patch the module for my own needs whenever it comes out :-(
cheers for maintaining the module though, it's always good to see an active maintainer. I know it's tough, I maintain some of my own...

jcnventuraIt's good. And I am pretty sure that anyone who can apply this patch will know how to use it. However, for the general 'public' this is not so easy to follow. They would need a proper module with a UI to configure the different slot IDs.

nicholasthompsonFair point about user-friendlieness...
Although - playing devils advocate here - all slot configuration happens on the Google Adsense end. All you do in this case is comma separate the slot ID's... Not sure that really needs an interface, does it?

moreonion commentedcheck out this lovely module
http://drupal.org/project/multivariate
is great for A/B testing and to test blocks you could simply load two blocks(if they are not too big) and hide one via css or something
hope this helps
