Cannot add any blocks

Ok first off I am using Drupal 8.8.0.

I've tried the adsense module version 1.1, 1.2-rc1 and the latest dev

I get the same response with all 3

When I go to add a block I click the "Place Block" button and nothing happens. I can add other blocks just fine. Nothing appears in the website logs or Apache log files.

However the console output in firefox reads the following error
