I would like to request that an optional field be added for the administrator to put in some intro text so that when the end user registers or adds their address in some other way it would display this text.

For example if you wanted to put in a message saying "We will not share your contact information with anyone..." or some other instructions concerning the input of an address.

In the meantime is there an easy way for me to simply add some intro text by modifying the module?

This type of change should be handled in your theme layer. There are thousands of possibilities of these types of additions which would cripple the performance of your web application/website if included. Thus the theme layer is the proper place for this.
