Is is possible to record an activity that shows which topics people read?

This could be done via hook_nodeapi. The nodeactivity module already allows for tracking node activity such as create/update/delete. I suppose it would be possible to add on the 'view' operation. On a busy site this would result in a LOT of activity records though so performance would certainly be a concern.
