Current release fatals on install on PHP < 5.3.20 due to anonymous functions (closures) in OpenLayers Beta7. The most recent releases have fixed this, thanks to a patch by the always wonderful Sheldon Rampton. Updating the make file to the newest version will allow this to install on some older versions of PHP still supported by Drupal 7.

Makes sense to me. 7.x-2.0-beta9 was released in March.
