i am new to Drupal and the first version i have used is 5.0. It is a great bit of software, BUT there are a lot of modules that i want to use but they are not ready for 5.0 yet. Like Front page, Taxonomy modules, theme makers, ect... Is it worth the wait or should/can i go back a version?

5.0 isnt considered
5.0 isnt considered production environment ready. It's still in beta.
That being said, going all the way back to 4.6 doesnt make much sense as with the impending release of 5.0 4.6 will be sunset.
If you want a site up now, using drupal you best choice, is 4.7 this will give you a stable, supported environent until 5.0 contrib modules catch up. which could take some time after the 5.0 RC release.
downgrade
is there away i can downgrade back to 4.7?
no there is no script
no there is no script available to downgrade from 5.0 to 4.7. I don't believe Drupal provides downgrade scripts with releasae packages let alone with betas.
nice site
how did you create the dropdown menus at the side and the breadcrumbs along the top? did you manually do this or is it part of 5.0?
that is part of drupal 5.0
that is part of drupal 5.0, which is still in beta release.
