I think this title would be better, as same as other modules' port

Title: Port to D7 » Node Limitnumber: Drupal 7 version

Most people disagree - the problem is that most modules have an issue with that same standard name.
Making it more specific helps differentiate it on our dashboards.

When you are the maintainer you choose what you want the issue title to be. If you think there is a problem with how your dashboard shows issues then file an issue with d.o. With the dashboards I use I have no problem with similar names since the project name is right next to it.

Shadlington’s picture

That's fine. I wouldn't question your choice to change it, I was just questioning rogical's.

While this module is great, for those of us needing something now you may want to check out "Node Limits" - which just added a Drupal 7 Dev version.

You could switch if you want to, but I wouldn't recommend it. Node Limit never even finished their Drupal 6 module so do you really think you can count on them for Drupal 7?

It has been a while since I have checked this issue. If there is really this much interest I am going to take a serious look at making the port during the next two weeks. I was making a port when I thought I had a site that would be using it, but that site fell through. I will keep you updated.

Great stuff! Integrating with Rules looks a great way to go. Very flexible.
Happy to pay for it to go through online Coder module if that helps as you seem to have to pay for this now. (PM me a PayPal account.)

Thank you in advance for your efforts.

Shadlington’s picture

You can just install coder and run it on your own drupal install

While Node Limit never released a full version of their Drupal 6 module, they are providing a Drupal 7 version rather quickly. The Node Limit D7 version also has been under quite a bit of active development lately. So while it may not have a full release, it is certainly a current working alternative.

It'd be best to join forces actually rather than try to grab each others audiences. The last thing we need is several different kinds of competing limit modules and a messy module library. It'd be better to have 1 working module with two partially active maintainers, rather than 2 mediocre modules with 2 partially active maintainers.

dddbbb’s picture

Agreed - join forces where possible.

infines’s picture

Perhaps you should both talk and meet in the middle with a 2.0 version of how you'd like to have the module work.

meh... If they want to join forces they can look me up. I took over this module because there was no drupal 6 alternative that actually did what I wanted. I just haven't had a need to port this to D7 yet (like I said the website fell through).

Don't bother putting it through the coder module because this module is too simple and most of it relies on rules changes and not drupal core changes. Once I wrap my head around the changes fago has done to D7 rules it shouldn't take too long to port. I've already put some time in today but the docs are a little sketchy so I've been reading the source comments to figure it out.

Maybe I will have something to test in the near future for everybody...

Subscribing. Does anyone know of a good workaround while we're waiting?

nfriend’s picture

Yes I mentioned it in #42.

Node Limit unfortunately doesn't work in the same way as node limit number, as it restricts posting based on the total number of users in a role. So, if your limit for content type "classified" is 60 for role-type "subscriber" and you have 60 subscribers, all the people in the role combined will only be able to post 60 nodes of that type.

The best thing I've found, so far, is to use UserPoints Node Action to drain points every time users post a certain node type, and people have to pay for more points if they want to post more content. The only thing I'm trying to figure out so far with that is how to have users start out with a set amount of points. If anyone has any good remedies for that, send me a PM, (since it isn't really appropriate to discuss under this module).

According to the project page:

No plans are in place for porting this to Drupal 7. If you need a module like this for Drupal 7 you can try out Node Limit.
