With the taxonomy_access module, I can control the read, update, delete, create and list permissions. The read, update and delete permission work well without any problems. The only problem is with creating a new node.
For example, I have got the following categories: "Firefox" and "Opera". I make a user with a only read, update, delete, create and list permission for "Firefox". When i create a new node, I can assign this node also to "opera"!!! But after I have submitted this node, I have no access rights to view the node. So it's weird that I can add this node to the "opera" category.
So I'm wondering if this is a bug, or a mistake somewhere in the configuration settings?

Category is not fully
Category is not fully compatible with TAC at the moment according to Jaza, the author of the category module.
Try enabling cac_lite module to see if it helps. It doesn't have as many features as TAC, but is said to be good enough for many purposes.
I want to make different
I want to make different access rules for viewing and updating. In this case an user with the "update" access permission, can also create new nodes in this category. With the cac_lite module, you can only give an user "view" acces to a category. Please correct me if I am wrong. :)
When you say 'can also
When you say 'can also create new nodes in this category', do you mean the ability to tag nodes with this category? Yogadex seemed to suggest that cac_lite would work for restricting the ability to *create* categories also:

I have "hacked" the category module, so it's now possible to give access for creating a new node in a category. And that's not the same as tagging i suppose. I just create a new node, and I select a category. The node will be placed in this category of course. But you can only select the categories if you have enough rights. That's what i want, and with the hack it's possible. :P
