We decided (I think it was in the Thread to put the operations links onto the modules page) to use "Configure" rather than "Settings".
If there was "Settings" as a noun I used "Configuration options" which sounds a bit clumsy and could be improved upon.
So we have to do this everywhere to be consistent....
The attached patch is a start, in which all the human-readable occurrences in system.admin.inc are changed. There may be many more places, so this thread could grow...
What is a real pain but just not doable for D7 I guess (unless some brave dragon-slayer volunteers) is to change all the internal naming to that term also. All paths and descriptions use "settings". Browse through system.admin.inc and you find one million places alone...

Anonymous (not verified) commentedIt seems like this patch only changed a few of the several instances. When configuring seven, the tab was still named "Settings." Also, the message that lets the user know that the current changes will only effect a particular theme still used "Settings."

smustgrave commentedThank you for creating this issue to improve Drupal.
We are working to decide if this task is still relevant to a currently supported version of Drupal. There hasn't been any discussion here for over 8 years which suggests that this has either been implemented or is no longer relevant. Your thoughts on this will allow a decision to be made.
Since we need more information to move forward with this issue, the status is now Postponed (maintainer needs more info). If we don't receive additional information to help with the issue, it may be closed after three months.
Thanks!
