Hi everything worked great from a clean install. I ran into issues upgrading so I decided to scratch everything and start over... I ended up rm on /usr/share/drupal /var/lib/drupal6 /etc/drupal/6 but not the simlink in var/www. I then ran sudo apt-get remove drupal6. I chose to remove the database... then I ran sudo apt-get install drupal6, I believe I may have chose the wrong option by choosing the packages settings.... anyways second time around it does not ask me to set up near as much and nothing works as it did first time around. What can I do so I can get a clean install or is this impossible now?
In summary, I'm using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala), and just need to install drupal on localhost and the directions no longer work.

Some More Detail
Hi, here's some more detail about the problem. Something is wrong with Apache and I"m pretty sure I messed up my database. If anyone could point me in the right direction I will be troubleshooting/fixing this tomorrow morning. Really want to get it working ASAP. ERROR below:
apache2: Syntax error on line 232 of /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Could not open configuration file /etc/apache2/conf.d/drupal6.conf: No such file or directory
What should I do about this?
I am a total Ubuntu nub, and am only familiar with unix command line stuff not related to linux since I typically use a mac. I have set up the database before for drupal using phpMyAdmin. The auto install was slick, but I probably need more manual directions to fix this, and just how to load up familiar tools or equivalents on Ubuntu. I had used MAMP and phpMyAdmin on the mac and the power and ease were great. Really just want to expedite this process so I don't dig around in the wrong place for too long!
Thanks.
Solution
Was able to start fresh by using sudo apt-get purge drupal6 then purging all the files listed by sudo apt-get autoremove (didn't actually auto remove). Linux guru friend of mine was able to clue me in :)
