Hi,
I am running my educational portal www.adhyapak.com on joomla. I have built lot of content like listing of all schools and colleges using Joomla SOBI Component.

I am facing lot of errors. some body suggested me to migrate to drupal.

Is it possible to tranfer whole content to drupal. Since building again is practically time consuming.

Is there any advantage of migrating to drupal or shall i continue using joomla as joomla planning for joomla 1.6 version.

Please suggest me.

Thanks
Raghavendra

Is there any advantage of migrating to drupal...

Yes, for example: CCK, Views, Taxonomy, Boost, SEO, flexibility, etc...

Drupal has more potential, but Joomla is easier for beginners though. Some books like O'Reilly's "Using Drupal" are useful to greatly shorten the learning time.

Hi,
Joomla have now advanced CCK (jSeblod CCK for example) capabilities, SEF and others.
Joomla extensions are more professionniel than Drupal, but Drupal is a good CMS.
You are on Joomla, you will los a lot of time to go on Drupal for nothing.
Best Regards.

A site like his can be accomplished using either Joomla or Drupal, it's what the site owner feels comfortable with using and how much time he/she has to devote to their project.

But i'm interested to know why you think Joomla extensions are more professional than Drupal modules?

Thanks,

Hi duvien,
Thanks for your post. I'm aggree with you about capabilities with Drupal or Joomla.
It's just that there is more professional publishers of Joomla extensions.
That's why you find many commercial extensions in Joomla community. It may be unfortunate but this ensures too a quality.
For example, the drupal CCK concept was smart but there is today some Joomla extensions more powerfull that CCK drupal.
Best Regards.

Majority of Drupal developers are professionals too. Just because one don't sell modules commercially does not mean they aren't professionals.

Often there is a myth that commercial products = quality. Drupal and Joomla are free, does this mean they aren't quality products? because everyone can contribute to towards it?

Anyway, this is getting a bit off-topic now so i'll stop there.

I'm excited and wanted to see how powerful the CCK version is for Joomla compare to Drupal but on your demo site i'm not able to test it. Complains about not having a license. Is there any way to test drive jSeblod CCK on your demo site?

Thanks,

Hi duvien,
Sorry the license file was deleted, it's ok now.
I complety agree with you about the quality and of course there is too great profesionnals on Drupal (we work too on Drupal). But at the same time, when a society can have a little return on investment, the society can continue to develop and more quickly than in free software.
Many thanks for your feedback with contact form on jseblod.com. Your mind as drupal specialist will be very appreciated.
Best Regards.

Having used both Drupal and Joomla on production sites I can say that drupal by far offers more flexibility and scalability. The real reason that drupal does not have as many commercial modules is because you don't need them, you can do everything with point and click. Joomla has very little content customization without having to get deep into the code, so if you want content displayed a certain way in joomla, special sections, etc, then you are pretty much forced to buy modules.

Simply put, 90% of the modules for sale for joomla are able to be built for free in drupal using cck, views, and taxonomy. For example, jreviews, a fairly pricey joomla module would be configured in drupal in a few minutes with more options just by using cck and views. jomsocial, about 150.00 bucks is simple configurations in drupal for free. Jomsocial is a very nice extension but you don't need it in drupal because you can do it yourself without touching a line of code.

Joomla is pretty much take it or leave it when it comes to customizing organization and display of information. What that means is, you are given options like A. B. C. and D., choose one and hope you are happy. In drupal, the content and display options are pretty much endless. The ONLY thing Joomla has on drupal is better themes.
