Greetings,

I am looking to create a site for our existing community that allows our members to create their own online memorials to honor their deceased ones.

A good example of a site is: http://www.virtual-memorials.com/

Memorial page example: http://www.virtual-memorials.com/main.php?action=view&mem_id=15532&page_...

Would it be relatively easy to set up Drupal for something like this?

Thanks,
Ray

Hey,

Yes it would be very relatively easy to set up a site like this on Drupal.
I think you have modules u can use for most of the features on your site....
examples:
cck - for creating a content type "memorial"
forum
blocks - "Recently created memorials"
search
and more..

Thanks!

Would each user be able to "own" the page his content is displayed on where they will upload images, text, etc. Perhaps their own guestbook for visitors to offer condolences, etc.?

Yes the content is that users content, you can enable permissions on the content so that users can edit and delete their own pages.

yes there is a guest book module in the downloads area.

drupal has a built in commenting system as well.

The best way to get yoru feet wet with drupal is to install it. If that doesn't interest you, you can test drupal (core) at http://www.opensourcecms.com/

FYI: I created http://workersmemorialfund.org in about 1 hour with Drupal. It's not quite like you describe since I currently have it configured such that only site admins can create the "memorial" nodes, but it'd be trivial to change the permissions around so that anyone could request accounts and then create/edit their own memorial nodes.

Cheers + good luck,
-Derek
