Hello Everyone,

My question entails two areas...
1) Is there an existing module that does this? I did some research but was not 100% confident in the solutions so far.
2) Does the Google API even support this?

We are basically creating an activity feed, for example... has joined website> on place it on google maps.

Our requirements are basically
1) no zooming (both from menu controls and mouse wheel)
2) no click-n-grab
3) default zoom level

and we'd LOVE to have
- overlay the entire map with our own graphical representation of the world. will placeholders still appear or will they be layered over by the overlay?

I don't know if this will fulfill your other requirements, and I haven't yet tested it myself, but the nicemaps system - http://drupal.org/project/nicemap - looks promising for, ermm, nicer-looking maps than the Google ones.

that looks like a viable option, especially since we wanted to make the focus a flat map as such. thank you for that.
