Create a logo that is 512x512 square dimension in PNG format without animations. Suggested file size should be 10k or less. Use a lossy image tool (such as pngquant) to reduce file size while keeping the image quality at around 80%.

MAINTAINERS: The logo should be added to the root folder of the repo, and be named logo.png. This must be present on your project’s default branch. This is the logo that will be displayed on the cards in the Project Browser grid and list views.
If you previously added a logo as the first image in the Images field on your project page, please remove it. Project Browser will no longer be using the first image as the logo.

It looks like this module already has a pretty nice logo, can this existing one be used?

Hi @michele_grace,

Yes, the existing logo is good, but it is also the best to get new suggestions over the time.

I would like to suggest two logos.

Please review.

Thanks

While the existing logo looks nice, it contains text, which duplicates the name in the project card, and text in images isn't good for accessibility.

I do like @urvashi_vora's "image-widget-crop-2.png".

All thinkgs being equal, I would vote for that one.

I must have missed that text in the logos is trying to be avoided. I agree with @lostcarpark that "image-widget-crop-2.png" looks good to me!

I don't believe there is a specific guideline around text in logos, but it's generally not good from an access viewpoint. It's also somewhat redundant, since the name is right there on the module card, so where possible it's generally advisable to avoid.

I have made a preview of @urvashi_vora's logo from #3:

Preview of lego by urvashi_vora

Confirming image is PNG, dimensions are 512x512 and file size is under 10K.

For comparison, I've also made a preview of the current logo on the project page:

Origional logo preview

The image is also a PNG, the dimensions are 512x512, but the file size is currently 22K. I expect it wouldn't be hard to compress and get under 10K.

Personally, I prefer the one from #3.

I agree with #2 that it's usually best to use the actual logo from the module if it already exists.

Having said that, I like #3 (second image) better and it looks great in the preview in #7. However, it looks very similar to the search results on Flaticon.com when searching "image crop". Can we confirm that it has been created from scratch? If not, are we sure we are allowed to use it without getting into any legal trouble?

urvashi_vora’s picture

Hi @tinto, yes I created the logo using canva, using crop element and image frame element.

Agree it looks quite similar to some of the Flaticon images, but I think that's because it's a common concept rather than because of any copying. Having said that, it would be neat to have a Drupal dropicon incorporated into the landscape somehow to give it a bit more of a Drupal theme. Not really sure how you'd accomplish that, but it might be fun to try.

I can give it a try.

Oh, I do really like image-widget-crop-2.png.

Here's a preview.

Cropped landscape with Drupalicon for sun.

I think that's my favourite so far, and it looks a little less generic than the previous one.

Looks good in preview.
