I wanted to see if drupal is good for internal company communications, like announcements from the president, the cms divided by company departments. Calendar that time off can be approved on. For all things internal company communications/organization.

It is but be aware that you will need to build a project more heavily focused on permissions. But on the fly drupal give you all the functionalities that you will need for that. Good luck.
