Change record status:
Project:
Introduced in branch:
9.5.x
Introduced in version:
9.5.0
Description:

Drupal 10 includes the modern Claro administration theme. New installations of Drupal 10 install Claro by default. If your existing site uses Seven as-is, we suggest switching to Claro instead.

In case your site subthemes the Seven theme or uses contributed projects that integrate with Seven but not with Claro (despite Claro being in core for years), the Seven theme is available as a contributed project and can be continued to be used from there: https://drupal.org/project/seven

Add it with composer require drupal/seven. It is possible to add the contributed project to an existing Drupal 9 site when preparing for the update, Drupal will prefer projects with the same name under the root themes directory or the sites/* directories over themes shipped in core.

"despite Claro being in core for years" seems a bit passive aggressive for something that was added less than 3 years ago and has only been officially stable for about 4 months.

This change comes also a bit of a surprise to me. I'll check out the claro never the less.

UPDATE 1:
Ok, I checked it out and is super chunky and feels way to large - more like a frontend theme, then something one would like to use in the backend... I see if I get used to it.
