Change record status:
Project:
Introduced in branch:
9.3.x
Introduced in version:
9.3.0-alpha1
Description:

The Quick Edit module is slated for removal from core in Drupal 10, based on data that indicate that the module is not commonly used by the intended audience and on the numerous technical, usability, and accessibility limitations with the current module.

To this end, Quick Edit has been removed from the Standard profile in Drupal 9.3.0. This change does not affect existing sites, only new sites installing the Standard profile for the first time. Drupal 9.3.x sites may still enable the module, and it will be available as a contributed module for Drupal 10 sites, although it is recommended to consider alternatives for the long term.

The Standard profile will continue to provide Contextual Links (the module that provides the dropdown menu with the pencil icon allowing the edit form for a piece of content to be opened). Site owners may also consider alternative solutions for in-place editing like the Geysir contributed module.

Removing Quick Edit is a missed opportunity and if the stats show low usage then obviously it hasn't been promoted well. Every client I have built sites for in Drupal 8/9 have fallen in love with Quick Edit and on those sites where updates have turned it off, I've been asked to reenable it. Even my colleagues in the WordPress space consider Quick Edit a killer feature and I expect we'll see WP come up with a similar plugin. It clearly should have been promoted because once you've used it on a well trafficked site, you won't want to deal with the back and forth of traditional editing. Hopefully someone has spun off a contrib of Quick Edit.

Realy? I hate it. ;-)
But there is a contrib module you can use.
