| thejimbirch | Catching up (edited) |
| mtift | This tread is for discussing the overall status of the Olivero initiative in broad terms, and we'll save specific issue discussions for later threads. |
| mherchel | Lots of progress with code, but lots of new accessibility issues are popping up as the a11y maintainers look closer.I’ve been meeting with them (during a11y office hours and individually) to plan for various fixes |
| mherchel | Right now, there are a lot of issues that need review. Some of these patches are somewhat large and will conflict with each other, so I’d like to get them committed asap |
| lauriii | I’m sorry I didn’t have a chance to commit any Olivero issues last week |
| lauriii | I should be able to dedicate some time this week |
| mherchel | No worries. there are a few RTBC. There are more that are waiting on a11y maintainer review |
| AmyJune (volkswagenchick she/her) | I am popping into the meeting to see if Olivero issues can be worked (and someone can lead the effort) on at Florida DrupalCamp’s Contrib day. Feb 20, 1-4 pm ET |
| mtift | This thread is the place to bring up specific issues that need some extra discussion |
| katannshaw | #3192656: Text inputs can create horizontal scrolling at narrow viewports in Olivero is RTBC and needing a maintainer review |
| mherchel | Thanks! Will take a look at that shortly |
| markdorison | It’s still not completely clear to me how tests should be implemented in the theme: #3174107: Add additional testing coverage for Olivero |
| mherchel | yeah |
| Andrei Zvonkov | @mherchel for this one: #3194560: Style maintenance page for Olivero Should the maintenance page have a header, footer, menus, other common theme elements? What should we render on it, besides the: “Site is under maintenance”, anything? |
| mtift | Some people are working on a starterkit theme which includes a CLI tool for generating new themes. Something that was brought up was that it could be interesting to be able to use Olivero as a starting point for a new theme |
| mherchel | who added that. I |
| mherchel | O |
| lauriii | I added :raised_hand: |
| mherchel | I’d be interested on hearing more |
| mtift | @lauriii could you provide some more context? |
| lauriii | I’m working on a starterkit theme to replace Classy #3050384: Provide a starterkit theme in core |
| mherchel | It might be a good way to skin it without subtheming |
| lauriii | I had a BoF on this in DrupalCon Europe and Global. In DrupalCon Europe someone mentioned that could we add support for Bartik and Olivero |
| lauriii | My initial reaction was that it would not be a good idea. However, then I started thinking how I got started in Drupal theming and that was by copying Garland theme back in the days |
| lauriii | So that changed my mind and I started wondering, why not if that’s what people are doing |
| lauriii | It gives people a more well defined starting point than Classy which can be helpful for someone new to web development |
| mherchel | From the Olivero pov, most people want to change the colors |
| lauriii | I think there are various use cases |
| lauriii | there’s the use case where you want something that looks like Olivero |
| lauriii | but there’s also a use case where you don’t want it to look like Olivero at all |
| mherchel | Is there anything that we can do within the theme to help? |
| lauriii | You just want a more well defined starting point that provides some structure for the work |
| lauriii | I guess the CLI tool could be adopted to support using Olivero as a starting point for a new theme |
| lauriii | What is essentially does is copies the theme in a new folder and renames it |
| mtift | Maybe I'm a bit old fashion, but sometimes I miss the old copy, paste, and modify workflow. I really like the idea of a cli tool that doesn't something similar, at least in theory. So my initial reaction is  |
| mherchel | the starterkit would also need some npm config to regenerate the CSS |
| lauriii | Depending on the user/developer, that could be what they want (edited) |
| mtift | If it also included some brief guidance about things that could be rather safely modified while still retaining key accessibility features. I realize that might be tricky, but I like the idea of allowing other people to incorporate all/much of the accessibility work that has gone into Olivero. |
| mtift | Share your suggestions here |
| mherchel | Technical Debt issue needs review[#3173014] (edited) |
| mherchel | @proeung and or @kostyashupenko  |
| mherchel | Accessibility issues that need both code and accessibility review[#3186349] |
| mherchel | Form design implementation needs design and code review[#3194350] |

volkswagenchickAttended. I am wondering if some of the group would like to sprint on the Olivero theme during Florida DrupalCamp's contrib day. Feb 20, 1-4pm ET.
